The Bainbridge Island Rotary Club and our community would like to thank you for all you did to make the 2013 Rotary Auction and Rummage Sale the most successful in the event’s 53-year history. With Marisa Lanning’s strong leadership and your tireless work, you helped raise gross receipts of $443,376.09, shattering the old record by more than $56,000.00!

As you know, the Auction is a unique and revered community event whose purpose is to raise money that the Rotary Club distributes as: community grants to local nonprofit organizations; anchor money for major community and international humanitarian projects; community service and vocational scholarships for high school students; and more. What you may not know is that over 98 percent of the Auction’s net receipts (gross receipts minus Auction-related expenses) are distributed to the causes cited above. I am sure future recipients of revenues from this year’s event will want to thank you too!

In my mind, the Club’s annual Auction is an incredible FELLOWSHIP event. As I stepped foot on the Woodward Middle School campus each morning, I couldn’t wait to see, say hello to, and thank you the hundreds of other volunteers who donated time and expertise to help transform the campus from empty parking lots and classrooms on June 19 into well organized and attractive departments on June 28. Day after day, I watched a diverse and incredibly dedicated team of people work together in a purposeful and productive manner. Thank you for the experience, enriching my life, and exemplifying the Club’s motto of “Service Above Self.”

I have the honor and privilege of serving as the 2014 Auction Chair. As I begin my tenure, I want to emphasize how important your continued involvement is to the success of next year’s event. The simple fact is that the Rotary Club cannot hold the Auction without your help!

As the year unfolds, I will be communicating with you several times to keep you informed and solicit your feedback and ideas on how to make our great event even better. I also want to encourage you to check the Auction website – – on a regular basis. Starting in September, it will contain monthly updates on the 2014 Auction and other information that will be of interest and useful to you.

Again, THANK YOU!!
