Welcome!
The Rotary Auction & Rummage Sale is an annual fundraising event organized and run by the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island and over 2,000 community volunteers.
Every summer, we take over the campus of Woodward Middle School (Google map), where we set up 30+ sale departments in classrooms, under tents, in parking lots, and on the athletic field. We accept drive-through donations for several days, then we sort, clean, test, price, and display those donations. All this work culminates in one epic sale, the net proceeds of which go back into local and international communities via Rotary club projects, grants, and scholarships.

And that’s a wrap! We are so grateful to our volunteers, donors, sponsors, shoppers, neighbors, the teachers, custodians and staff at Woodward, the City of Bainbridge Island, the Police & Fire Departments, and Bainbridge Prepares for the countless hours, energy, and care they put in to this sale.
What happens to the things that don’t sell? When the sale ends, 60+ registered nonprofits and other groups come and harvest anything they can use. Next, anything that is in sellable condition is boxed or set aside for our bulk harvester, Goodwill, to collect. Then we open the gates for overnight gleaning by the public. What still remains on Sunday is picked up by our good partners at Bainbridge Disposal. We are proud to say that every year we send fewer trucks to the landfill.
On Sunday we roll up the protective rugs in the gym, return desks to classrooms, collect and bag all trash, do a metal sweep across the campus, and hope that we left the school the way we found it. Stay tuned for next year’s date!

The Rotary Sale Story
The Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island Auction & Rummage Sale was born in 1960 when Bainbridge Islanders decided they needed a new library. To raise the necessary funds, local residents collected donations for the project, and Rotary took the lead. The first auction raised nearly $6,000 toward library construction. A year later, in 1961, the second Rotary auction raised $4,000 to purchase furniture for the new building. The Auction & Rummage Sale has continued (almost) annually ever since.
The sale has become a local institution and is truly a community effort that would not be possible without the help of an army of volunteers that come together every year, some of whom have done so for 30 years or more. Over 2,200 community volunteers worked at the last sale!
We invite you to visit the Where the Money Goes page to see the many ways that thousands of volunteer hours, sponsorship support, and the sale of generously donated items has made a positive impact in peoples’ lives.
